What is Universal Testing Machine? 
A Universal Testing Machine (UTM), also known as a Materials Testing Machine is used to test the tensile strength and compressive strength of materials. The “universal” part of the name reflects that it can perform many standard tensile and compression tests on materials, components, and structures.
Step to Follow to Perform a Tensile or Compression Data with a Universal Testing Machine
Step 1 : Prepare sample according to desire test method as specified in ASTM, ISO, JIS, BS, DIN….etc
 

 

 

 

 

Step 2 : The specimen is placed in the machine between the grips and use an extensometer if required, that can automatically record the change in gauge length during the test.

Step 3 : Once the machine is started it begins to apply an increasing load on specimen. Throughout the tests the control system and its associated software record the load and extension or compression of the specimen and obtaining the stress–strain curve showing typical yield behaviour of the material.

Universal Testing Machine range from very small table top systems of 50N to with over 2000kN capacity.
