VIT 316 - Blanket Flammability Tester

Application
Blanket Flammability Tester, to determine the ignition resistance property of blanket fabrics and surface flame spread performance of fabric. A standardized flame is applied to the surface of specimen for a special time under controlled conditions, and burning, changing, or discoloration of a paper monitor is noted to classify flammability of tested fabric.

Application Range of Blanket Flammability Tester

It is used to detect the flame retardancy of the blanket fabric or the flame spreading performance of the fabric surface. The test method is to burn the specimen surface with a standardized flame in the prescribed time, so as to observe the combustion, damage degree or discolouration of the sample, and then evaluate the tested fabric.

The Operation Method of Blanket Flammability Tester

After preparing the sample and adjusting the instrument, place the assembled sample fixture on the sample clip. Open the gas valve and supply gas to the fire pipe, and then use an electronic lighter to ignite the nozzle. By pressing the start key on the control surface plate, the fire pipe moves to the test position, and ignite the sample and test paper on the test fixture, while the timing system is started at the same time. At the end of the test, take off the sample and test paper for rating.

Why We Need the Blanket Flammability Tester?

This test method for the determination of the flammability of blankets is considered satisfactory for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of blankets since this test method has been used extensively in the trade for acceptance testing. All fabrics made of natural or regenerated cellulose and other synthetic fibres are combustible, when they sued as blankets, they have potentially dangerous to the user. By using the flammability tester, we can test the flammability, combustion rate and intensity of the blanket.

This test method specifies the procedures described in the “Voluntary Blanket Flammability Standard” which has been used by the blanket industry in the United States since 1972. This test method should be used to measure and describe the properties of materials, products, or assemblies in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, the test results can still be used as an element of fire risk assessment, since all factors related to fire risk assessment for specific purposes are taken into account.
